holding me and nothing else matters.

A few years ago we were discussing what songs we would like to have sung at our funerals. There were worship leaders and singing school teachers gathered together in this discussion.

I found it interesting that our oldest participant chose the most contemporary of songs. Brother Bill said that this new music really speaks to the heart of worship than many of the older songs. He did chose one oldie goldie because it was his father's favorite song. Bill is in his late sixties or early seventies.

We also found that many younger guys chose some traditional songs like Amazing Grace and How Great Thou Art.

Interesting. Why don't we poll this question? What songs do you want sung at your funeral?

1. How Great Is Our God - One of the best, simplest praise choruses that anyone can sing, at any tempo and the message of God's greatness leaks over.
2. When the Night Is Falling - Love thinking about God singing over his children, the voice of God soothing our hearts with song.
3. Arms of Love - Love the imagery and music works well with the words.

With all my 'camp' experience, I have thousands of other titles that mean a great deal to me . . .

Hands down my top three favorite worship songs are:

1. Greatest Commands (#448 in our song books : )
2. There's a stirring
3. I don't know the name of the third one but here are the words: "I see the Lord, seated on the throne, exalted. And the train of his robe fills the temple with Glory. And the whole earth is filled. And the whole earth is filled. And the whole earth is filled with his glory.

When ever I sing the third song, I get chills down my spin and tears in my eyes. It is so moving.

Wow, i've really fallen behind. I've been wicked busy! i'll respond to those soon as well.

When it comes to my favorite praise song, i'm reminded every time i find myself singing it every single day.

1. We Shall Assemble
Often, i'll pull that praise and worship tape out from when you were in Phoenix the week i was born again, and sing along with it. During one of the days you sang with the praise team before the service, you lead this song and you loved it so much you sang it through like 9 times! Every time i sing it, i can see why. The words of that song are SO powerful and true...glory and honor and dominion unto the Lamb and unto the King, we sing the song of the redeemed!

2. Hide Me Away Oh Lord
Love it love it love it.

3. Glory and Honor
If the words ever come for me to explain it, i'll be sure to fill you in!

I am surprised when I think back to all my favorite contemporary songs, realizing the shifts and "rotations" are not unlike top 40 radio play lists. Some songs that are favorites of the church (we surveyed Madison a while back and "Shout To The Lord" was on top; I would guess that "Days Of Elijah" may be the consensus now) will eventually tire out in popularity, while others stand the test of time. I guess my current favorites would be:

There are so many contemporary worship songs written today that have simple, and yet powerful/encouraging messages. It is very difficult to pick out favourites.
