I have always loved Christmas music. Some of the prettiest songs ever written are Christmas songs.

Without a doubt ..."White Christmas" In conjurs up all the wonderings of us from age 3 to 103 the inherit belief inside us all that 'somehting is better' or gonna get better and that dreams really do come true. It's the positive nature amoung all the other natures of man some of which are not good. And that song reflects the time when it was a gentler, kinder, non suspicious time in our history the 50's after the greatest world war and it's generation.
Peace on earth to all this year and may good come out of our efforts around the world and God Bless President George Bush in these difficult times. Re: Re: Christmas Songs

It's so hard to pick one! "O Holy Night" is always beautiful. But "Welcome to Our World" by Chris Rice has also become one of my favorites.

I don't consider this JUST a Christmas song, as my a cappella chorus sings it all year round for performances. It is "Mary Did You Know".
Robin Re: Christmas Songs
Come Thou Long Expected Jesus is my favorite.
Re: Christmas Songs
"Silent Night" is my all time favorite, but "Mary Did You Know?" is up there too.
Re: Christmas Songs
Well I too have come to love Christmas music because my wife is such a Christmas nut. I've written several that have become my favorites. No Gift Compares is the first one I wrote and will probably always be my favorite.
Re: Christmas Songs
The First Noel...hands down. And I've always loved Mo singing it on that first Christmas album.

OK.I cannot choose just one. How 'bout Top 5? My Dancing Day. How Unto Bethlehem.Lo How A Rose. Coventry Carol.Breath of Heaven.
You are right. It seems that there are more beautiful, captivating Christmas songs than any other genre. Re: Christmas Songs
So far, my favorite is "Welcome To Our World" by Chris Rice. Beautiful and simple.

Without a doubt, I have three favorites...two somewhat traditional and one more recent. As for the traditional ones, I absolutely love "O Holy Night" and "Angels We Have Heard On High". For the more recent selection, I too absolutely love "Welcome to Our World" by Chris Rice. How can you not embrace God's love and grace when you hear the phrase "Tiny heart whose blood will save us...unto us is born".
Of course, it's awfully hard to not include the Hallelujah Chorus by Handel as well!!! Re: Christmas Songs

Keep the songs coming! We may have to ask our trusted statistician, Jonathan Paden to tally the results next week of this question too.
Larry and Pat, White Christmas is a beautiful song. Thanks for reminding us to pray for President Bush. Speaking of, The Vocal Union is getting to sing for the President at the White House two times this month! Isn't that great? Elizabeth, I love O Holy Night too. Acappella has been singing that this season. You also mentioned Welcome To Our World, which by the looks of things, could be a contender for the number one spot, since Jonathan and Kevin listed that one too. Robin, you should have heard Mary Did You Know at our coffee house "Tea and Jam" tonight at Madison. Jonas Weathers, one of our praise team singers, used to play sax for Louise Mandrell - and that boy can play and sing! Lee, didn't that song bring chills? Shane, you don't have to be old to pick old songs or young to pick new songs - I count you as very young. :) Gary, you have a very talented family! Thanks for sharing your original song with us. Jon, The First Noel is a "Mo classic." Glad you are back safe and sound from Russia. What was your most memorable moment on that trip? Timothy - Carol Of The Bells is very unique and beautiful. Carlos, Mary Did You Know and Joseph's Song are winners. Thanks for leading the way in bilingual praise! CoolMcCool and Kevin, I only asked for one song, but you gave a bunch of great ones! That's okay, we'll count them all. As I said, I love Christmas music. I have a recording of Lo How A Rose Ere Blooming I'd love for y'all to hear. Another that I like is What Child Is This, as George Pendergass sings it. "A Tiny Child" makes me cry. Re: Christmas Songs

Right out of High School! I dont think I even realized what a legend I was with. He told me something I'll never forget at a rehearsal. We were just playing a tune and he stopped and said "Jonas, let me tell just one thing..." and then he got this strange bunched up look on his face and his head started going back and forth...you can imagine my anticipation of one of the greatest things ever said to me by the great Ray Charles. After a long pause he said "Aaahhhhh man...I forgots what I was gonna say, oh well, lets play some more!" Classic huh???

I would have to say Mary Did You Know. There are some specific versions that I love though: Mark Lowery and Fourthwatch. Fourthwatch actually won best arrangement by ASCAP back in like 2003. Love it!
