Motorcycling is a lot of fun!  I have been a cyclist since my early days on a Rupp mini-bike in Paris, Tennessee.  Recently, Sharon and I have gotten into motorcycling again and are gradually building up endurance for longer trips.

The Honda Gold Wing is a sleek, well-equipped touring motorcycle that is a joy to ride.  The “Wind Ding” festival was held in Nashville in July at the Opryland Hotel and included a world-record parade of 1,264 Gold Wings (in which we were somewhere in the middle.)  If you'd like to see some more pictures of these motorcycles, trailers and colorful enthusiasts, click on the Motorcycle Photo Album.  Serious touring riders will take trips all the way across the United States - some trips lasting weeks.

Marvin Phillips has made a tremendous impact on my life.  Having directed the Tulsa Workshop and served the Garnett church for many years, Marvin travels the world preaching the Gospel.  I have joined him on missions to Australia and South Africa, as well as many places here in the United States.

Marvin has been a Gold Wing enthusiast for a long time.  Ask him what’s the difference between a Harley Davidson and a Honda Gold Wing and he’ll tell you it’s the quiet, smooth sound of the Honda engine versus the loud (“potato, potato, potato”) roar of the Harley.  I guess that’s why most cool people ride Harleys.

When asked if Harley riders can go to heaven, Marvin says, “The answer is ‘yes,’ but when they arrive in heaven they’ll be issued their gold wings.”

Someone vandalized our Gold Wing and ripped the “G” off of "Gold," simply leaving “old wing.”  I guess that makes me an “Old-Winger.”
