Radio Dilemma

It seems that we have had a mixed relationship with Christian radio over the years. The disappointment comes in deciding how to approach Christian radio stations with our music. This challenge is repeated in these words: "Our listeners don't like a cappella music." In many cases, the radio "gatekeepers" prevent the music from having a chance to be heard so the people can decide for themselves. Imagine how pleased I was to wake up this morning and read this message from a Christian radio personality:

I'm now listening to your version of Awesome God!!! WOW!!! I LOVE THIS!!!!
PLEASE send your music for airplay on Morning Light on WFIF!!! :)

This is exceptional!! Normally, I reject "cover" songs... but when they are BETTER than the originals, I LOVE THEM! :) WOW!!! The background vocals on this one are totally SUPERB!!! I have tears in my eyes as I listen to this! WOW!!!!! \o/

I cannot believe what I have been MISSING all these years since we last received any of your music!! <:o WOW!!! This is amazing! :)

I can imagine how Noah was discouraged when people didn't subscribe to his world view. Reading this message encourages us to continue reaching out with unique, God-honoring music to make it available to more people (even if it is considered peculiar by being all-vocal.) Would you pray for us in this ministry?

Our slogan is "hear it in our voice."
Hear what? I hope people can hear the Gospel in our voice - the voices of ordinary people who have been richly blessed and transformed by the loving and compassionate God of the universe. I hope people can hear the grace of a wonderful Savior who is drawing people to himself to accomplish the purpose of creation.

Our God is an awesome God!

Also, pray for the upcoming recording of "Glorious God."

I don't know how many of the original singers on "Awesome God" are reading this blog, but I want to thank you again for volunteering to be a part of this project that God continues to grow! If you were part of the recording of Awesome God, what surprised you the most about the recording process and "the making of" Praise & Harmony?

Keith,

I am so glad that you have been and are continuing to spread the Word through song. My wife and I have enjoyed your music since the first time we saw Acappella in concert in the early 1980's. We have been taking our children to Acappella and AVB concerts and events for more than 20 years (does that mean we are getting old?). I'm confident that in addition to reaching many, your ministry has kept many connected to the King and His Kingdom.

My prayer is that many, many more will indeed "hear it" in your voices!

A cappella music is way cool. I love your sidebar link in favorite videos of "The Most Versatile Instrument of Music". It seems others are catching on to the power of the human voice.

I love "Awesome God". I didn't get to participate in the making of it, but I will be there for "Glorious God". 8 of us in a van leaving after work on Thursday, driving 550 miles from Idabel, OK and arriving in Nashville somewhere around 2 or 3 in the morning. Now that's a ROAD TRIP!! It will be great fun.

Glad to hear that someone's giving P&H some airtime. I enjoyed the experience, fellowship and singing at the recording for Awesome God. I can't make the recording this weekend but my neice Melissa is planning on being there with her husband and some others from their church in Indiana as well as some friends from Tulsa.

I think the finished product was quite nice, a good mix of the studio and live voices. What surprised me was the setup. I wondered how you would effectively record 125 singers, keep us together, in tune and natural sounding. My guess is achieving that goal was a bit more of a challenge than expected since it took longer than planned to release the recording. But your team did a great job.

"Awesome God" was my first recording since recording "Deep River" with the Harding University Chorus in the Spring of 1992. It was basically the same other than we didn't wear ear buds back then. I thought that was pretty cool how we all wore those to hear the timing, etc. I had so much fun recording "Awesome God", and can hardly wait to do "Glorious God"!! My only complaint is it goes way too fast. I could do this forever!! :) So many people have been blessed by "Awesome God" and I know so many will be blessed by "Glorious God" as well! :) It's really awesome to be singing in the midst of 100 - 200+ people lifting their voices to the Father. I think it's just a little taste of what Heaven will be like! :)

Julie -- I was in the HU Chorus in 92 and don't remember recording Deep River. Hmmmm, I graduated in 92, so I should have been there then, right?

Anyway, we're bringing a bunch from Trenton, Michigan as well, leaving early Friday morning and getting back Saturday night . Then I'll be on praise team Sunday morning (if I have any voice left)! What a whirlwind trip!!!

"Gem", I wish I knew who you were...I have the tape. :) It was Feb. 92'...so I guess you should have been there. :) I will try to find you at the recording this weekend.
