Great picture, Keith. Hey, how does the bike handle with a trailer? I've always been curious about that, since I had a Gold Wing growing up.

Mt Rosevelt firetower park overlooking Rockwood TN off HiWay 70. This is where the big star is located that can be seen for miles, especially when lit at night. The Smokey's are barely visible at 50 miles out. The lake is a bit of Watts Bar Lake near Kingston. This overlook is one of my favorite spots. Been there by car, motorbike (82 Siverwing), and bicycle.
Sometime you should try route 62/162 between Monterey and Knoxville. Low traffic, nice curves, and great views. Might take an extra 30-40 minutes. And if you have even more time, take the 116/330 loop by Brushy Mtn back to Oliver Springs, good practice for the Dragons Back with four sets of switchbacks on lonely roads. "We have some winners!"
Yes, it is Mount Roosevelt firetower Park overlooking Rockwood, TN. (As I was growing up in Paris, Tennessee, I remember someone saying "He lives out there on far tar road," of course he meant "fire tower.") Last night we stayed in Roanoke, Virginia and noticed a big star on the mountain overlooking Roanoke too. James, I need to make note of your route suggestions. East Tennessee has many great cycle rides. I've heard about the "Dragon?" Is it as dangerous as I hear? Where does it begin and end? Let me know other favorite routes for my hit list. Brad, the trailer is almost unnoticeable riding behind us. It's great to be able to haul extra luggage, Praise & Harmony CDs and such. We also added some heated clothing to our gear for those cold, early mornings. |
