I have some disturbing questions for you regarding worship.

If singing is so important to our "corporate" worship experience, and, if it is indeed one of the few activities in which everyone (young, old, male, female, members, visitors) can freely participate, then why do so many churches invest millions of dollars into their facilities, with little to no thought as to how the acoustics will affect the quality of the congregational singing?

Do you know of situations where elaborate buildings were completed only to find that the singing was negatively affected because of acoustical problems?  (You don't need to mention names.)

Also, how does the layout of our auditoriums encourage the idea of the preacher and songleader being performers and the rest of the congregation becoming merely the "audience?"

I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences.  Here is the primary question for this week's worship poll -

Are the acoustics in the building where you worship:
___  Excellent and conducive to the best singing?
___  Fair and acceptable?
___  Poor and detrimental to the best singing?
