How many of you have received messages from Amy Grant?
She wrote about me in her blog this week! You can read it here.
We place a lot of emphasis on celebrity status nowadays. I'm sure that God's "hall of fame" is much different than the world's. Sharon and I were very pleased to meet Amy Grant who serves and worships with College Hills in Lebanon, Tennessee, where we led worship this weekend. What a special family this is!
While at Madison, we knew a Patsy Cline and a Michael Jordan.
How many of you have friends or acquaintances with the same names as celebrities?

While living in Williamstown, West Virginia, we remember an elderly man named Jimmy Carter who attended the worship services. I remember him well, because he had a knack for saying "amen" at the most inappropriate times! :)

Keith,
You know that I have a brother in law named Steve Martin. He and his wife Bebe used to live in Williamstown but now live in Cleveland where Steve is the pulpit minister for the Cleveland Church of Christ!. They need to have you up there once the snow melts to do a P&H seminar! They loved the one we did in Parkersburg back in August! Brian Re: Re: Amy Grant
when i was a child in Biloxi Mississippi, we had an older gentleman we called "the candy man". His actual name was Robert Lee. He stood at the door and greeted everyone who came to church. One day, as a visiting man came through the door brother Lee introduced himself. To which the visitor replied, "well hello, I'm Jefferson Davis".
We got a laugh out of that one for a while. Re: Amy Grant
I've commented on Amy Grant's blog, and I'm pretty sure she's commented on mine! I've also chatted with the "celebrity" Amy Grant (her daughter, Corrina, was in my daughter Abbie's preschool class.) She's just a normal gal. Vince seemed less comfortable in the kids' Christmas party atmosphere with all the moms -- didn't hang around for long!

I work with a guy named James Brown! :D He goes by "J.B."....I wonder why? ;) So far I haven't heard him bust out with "I feel good...." Poor guy has to get harassed all the time. I've been told I sound like Amy Grant when I sing, does that count for anything? I do believe your daughter, Melissa, was one of the first ones to tell me that. Since then I've had others tell me that too. :) I'll take that as a huge compliment! :D
Re: Amy Grant
At the congregation I attended in Johnson City, TN Alan Jackson was baptized by David Crockett a few years ago.

There was a high school running back from Salisaw, OK who led the nation in rushing this past season whose name is Bubba Fillpot. Nothing famous, I just love that name.

I know a Harley Davidson who preaches.
What about names that are unlikely to be duplicated? Like, Barak Obama. Oprah Winfrey. Moon Zappa? Re: Re: Amy Grant

When I was preaching in Wewoka, OK we had a young lady whose parents named her Frosti Snowmen. You Texans (Houston Area) know about the famous Grocery Store Owner H. E. Butts. I can't imagine why his mom let him have his real first name.
I have a friend at Harding by the name of Michael Landon (good bass singer). Re: Amy Grant

Here in Sullivan, the youth minister at the Christian Church is Michael Jackson, and my banker is Jon Bobbit.
Re: Amy Grant
Hey, Clarissa! Yep, that's me.
Funny there are so many Steve Martins running around. My neighbor in Norman, OK was Steve Martin! I have known Jim Brickman, he is a retired Army General who was on staff with my husband in Norman. And I used to work for Gary Morrison in Abilene, Texas. Isn't there a famous one of those? Re: Amy Grant

7th Street Church of Christ in Columbia, TN has a minister by the name Randy Owens, not to be confused with Randy Owen of the group Alabama. Winfield COC has a youth minister named Michael Jackson.
Along the funny name lines, my wife tells the story of two high school football players during her high school days. One was Orangejello (Oar-ahn-juh-lo) and the other was a guy named First Corinthians Jones. Re: Re: Amy Grant
