I'd like to share encouraging messages we receive that reinforce the power of the Gospel in music to bless people. Here's one I received just this week:
![]() My 23 year old grandson has been raised in the church and grew up listening to your music. He is currently in Special Ops serving in Afghanistan. I recently sent him 2 of your CDs, "Travelin Shoes" and "Conquerors". I just spoke to him and he wanted me to let you know that when he got my package that he'd been pretty down, but as soon as he started listening to the familiar songs, it brightened his day and he found that after hearing only the first couple of words to a song, he could sing along and it brought back such wonderful memories. Thank you so much for your beautiful music and inspiration. You never know how much it means to us. God Bless you all!! L. C.

The making of "Hymns For All The World" was an exciting process. We hired language experts to assist us with the pronunciations in singing all the different languages that were included on this unique hymns album. Now if we only could tame those southern accents!

Recording great music encompasses much more than the technical considerations. Music can be performed flawlessly in a mechanical sense and still lack spirit. More often than not, it seems to be a challenge to capture the emotions of a song and communicate the intended feelings. What recordings stir your heart and move you emotionally?

I vividly remember praying that our ministry could reach around the world. For the longest time, it felt like we would never receive opportunities to travel internationally.
![]() Duane, George, Gary Miner, Wayburn, Gary Moyers Rodney Britt and I wondered why we didn't get to go overseas. The fact is, we did. When Zambian A cappella came to sing at ACAFEST for the first time, I was amazed by their perfect recall of all the arrangements from the CDs Rodney and I had recorded. That's when it dawned on me that our prayer had been answered, as our music did in fact "go overseas," as represented by the impact on these young men from Africa. Since that time, it seems the flood gates of opportunity have been opened to Acappella Ministries. Thank you for YOUR prayers in our mission to spread the "Good News" through song. Wednesday, July 25

There have been times in my life after overworking my voice that the doctor told me the only solution was extended silence. I've heard that Celine Dion goes on regular vocal silence one day per week to keep her voice in top shape.

![]() Yesterday, Sharon and I enjoyed dining at J. Alexander's in Memphis. This restaurant began in 1991 in Nashville, Tennessee and has spread quite extensively to these locations: Atlanta, GA For the longest time, our favorite restaurant in Nashville was the very similar Houston's. I say "was" for this reason - although Nashville was the home of the very first Houston's restaurant, there is no longer one here. However, we have eaten at the Houston's locations in Atlanta, Nashville, Memphis, Houston, Phoenix and San Francisco.
I was first introduced to Houston's in the 1980's when Lee Milam (what a great guy!) treated me to my first visit. It's one of those rare places where it seems everything on the menu is outstanding. Sharon's favorite, grilled salmon has become my favorite choice as well. Houston's was the place where the Paris, TN engineering staff would go to celebrate after mastering and completing a major project for The Acappella Company. Of course, being in Nashville, it was not uncommon to spot celebrities frequenting their West End location. We have so many enjoyable memories there. Now that Houston's is no longer here, we are very thankful that J. Alexander's has three locations in our area. You cannot beat J. Alexander's for food and service. I find it quite humorous that conversations with other singer "road warriors" often find us remembering places by the food. That's why I'm adding a new category of "restaurants and food" to my blog. I guess we could cover all my topics of choice by riding motorcycles to J. Alexander's to meet our families to sing four-part harmony, listen to groups sing, and to discuss worship, the church, tell jokes and plan our next cruise vacation. Have you ever been to Houston's? Have you eaten at J. Alexander's? What is your favorite restaurant and why? Monday, July 23

Today was filled with what I would literally call "amazing," spirit-filled harmonious singing. Ashdown, Arkansas, just north of Texarkana, was the location of today's praise & harmony workshop.
![]() An auditorium full of Christians of all ages gathered to learn more about living and singing in harmony. ![]() Tom Chapin of Little Rock was one of the instructors. ![]() ![]() Joe & Cheryl Chase traveled from Burleson, Texas to help lead the weekend. ![]() ![]() The Shipps We were blessed to spend some time with the mayor of Texarkana and his wife. ![]() There were memories from Acappella concerts dating back to the early 80's. I hope we are blessed to return to the Texarkana area again soon. I imagine an even larger crowd of worshippers will assemble to enjoy the congregational experience. ![]() The Simmons Family worked so hard to pull all of this together. ![]() These are the teachers/discussion facilitators who led the multiple classes that took place all day, beginning at 9:30 A.M., and concluding at 8 P.M. A youth track was featured with special songs with the teenagers. What a full and wonderful day! I wish you could have heard all the comments that were shared with me about how this day was so special. Anyone wish to comment?

In 2002, we enjoyed the 20th Anniversary Reunion Concert in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Every reunion has unique characteristics. This year was a special treat as the concert featured no backing tracks (except closing song, "Well On My Way"), and the combinations of singers required to pull off those arrangements were electrifying. Some said that the highlights were "Rescue" and "Not My Will But Thine." The set list reached back for some old standards that we haven't sung in a long time, including the addition of a "Water From The Well" children's singing group. While we are discussing this, do you think it is best to wait five years for the next reunion concert?
![]() Saturday's concert was a blessing, as we met people who traveled all the way from California, Arizona, Western Colorado, Maryland, Georgia and such long distances just to attend the reunion concert. (Wes, I know you were tired after driving through the night back to Indiana to lead worship the next morning!) I really believe their answers to this question would be a good barometer. Since you were willing to travel all the way from Western Colorado just for this reunion concert, we'd like to ask if you'd travel again next year? Our normal pattern would be to wait five years until the 30th Anniversary - but we would like to hear your thoughts. Should we host it sooner and add some other elements? As wonderful as the concert was, I missed hearing "If There Were No God," "I'm At Your Mercy," "Abba Father," "We Have Seen His Glory," "I'm Walking That Line" as well as many other favorites. It's difficult to select songs with such a collection of material from which to choose. Of course, there was not enough time to include standards like "Hush," "Criminal On The Cross," "Now To Him" etc. Thank you for your comments.

My friend Shane, from the Bahamas, sent this photo of TuneTown singing their hearts out during the kick-off of Summer Celebration / ACAFEST at Lipscomb.
![]() I really enjoyed singing "Shut De Do" with these ladies. With Acappella singing the national anthem before the fireworks, Rodney Britt and Sounds of Glory singing patriotic numbers after experiencing congregational singing with nearly 3,000 people, this was a wonderful evening.

We are blessed. Very blessed. You cannot imagine all the encouraging stories we hear about how the Gospel in song has made an overwhelming difference in the lives of precious families. We are so thankful for your letters, e-mails and comments. I received a message after the Reunion Concert that epitomizes the ultimate encouragement for our "musicianaries."
![]() I asked permission to share it with you. Here is that message: I just wanted to email you and let you know that I was at your 25th Anniversary concert Sat. the 7th of July at Lipscomb University not because I wanted to be there, Because I was working. My partner and I were sent from Robertson County E.M.S to be your Medical Staff for the concert. We were both very tired, We had been on another Special assignment since 7am that morning outside in 95 degree weather and we were exhausted. But anyway we had no idea who Acappella was and at the moment we didn't even care. But I want you to know those boys hit the stage and we both were floored with the sound and the Word of the gospel flowing throughout the building. They have to be the best group I have ever heard, When they performed "All Men Will Know" I literally cried and I want you to know I do not show emotion most people would say I don't even smile, But that is a beautiful and touching song. When the show was all over my partner and I left with a copy of the the new CD and I have not stopped listening since. I want to thank you for our wonderful experience and a spiritual boost to the end of a long day. Sincerely,Jason Stone EMT-IV Thank you Jason, for sharing those kind words with us. This helps Acappella keep going in spite of all the obstacles. We appreciate it! Anyone who desires can share that song with friends through this link. Wednesday, July 11
