Does your song leader ever “overpower” the congregation in volume?

no, we try to control that back at the sound board. he even moves the mic from himself if he thinks he is getting too loud.

ALL THE TIME. I can't even hear myself sing, and I have a very loud voice as a former worship minister myself. It's very frustrating.
Re: Worship Survey: Volume
Well, it helps that we're in a congregation that has a good 10-15 song leaders that rotate on a regular basis. But, my song leader husband.... yeah, he can be a bit overpowering. What bothers me more is the song leader who asks you to stand for every song. (Oh wait, that's my DH again. :D)

Yes, all the time. I have tried so many times to tell him that it's too loud, but he thinks i'm picky and usually does nothing about it. Others have said it too, but it doesn't matter....he is always right in his eyes and it drives me crazy....and because of it i sometimes don't even want to sing in the praise team cause i can't hear myself think while singing and the worship experience is dry.

tim, i've been in your shoes. i didn't mention that the guy before the dude we have now would have the same attitude when he lead, too. he must be your guy's brother, or something.
i can understand why guys would've wanted to be that loud in the past, but with technology the way it is today, the guy in the booth can make him as loud as he needs to be. Re: Worship Survey: Volume

No, Shane (Memorial Drive CofC) does a very good job at self monitoring. Plus we have a fabulous sound crew that knows just how to mix everything. Shane often takes the mic away from his mouth in order to just worship with us instead of trying to lead us. I think that is a very important quality in a worship minister. One that is there to be a fellow worshipper....not always the leader. He likes to hear us (the congregation) sing just as much as we do. It's truly a great combination and we are blessed.
