Some of you may remember the song, "Listen To Him" from Acappella's Rescue album. As with many songs I have written, a favored approach has been to write Scripturally-based songs. Some are word-per-word while others follow the narrative. The song "Listen To Him" recounts the Biblical account of the transfiguration of Jesus - and what an amazing story it is!
It's encouraging to hear people tell us how our songs have helped them to learn Scripture, and that while reading the Bible, they come across passages that they have been "singing" and hearing for years through our albums.
I can't help but smile as I remember this humorous experience from well over fifteen years ago. I don't remember the year that Acappella was singing for a special event in St. Louis when a new Christian spoke to me about her delightful discovery. She was so excited, and very surprised when she came across the transfiguration account in the New Testament. She knew of the song, "Listen To Him" and only after a period of time, came to the realization that, "Hey, that's in the Bible!"
What an imagination that would have been required for me to make up such a story.

Re: Listen To Him
Everytime we read a verse at church that is in one of Acappella's songs, I start singing it in my head (or sometime out loud! haha). If I didn't learn the scripture from a particular song, the song sure helps me remeber it. "His Righteousness", "Sing to the Glory", "More Precious than Gold", "Everything We Need","Don't Be Overcome" and "Give" (the ending) by AVB, "Be Devoted", and the other song of Radiance The Son is the Radiance of God's Glory" are just a few of the ones I remember hearing people read the verses they were based on at church in the last year. It's definitely helped me to remember scripture, and when its turned in to an incredible song, its hard to forget.

Now what's really interesting for me is when I realize that one of the old hymns I've been singing all my life also comes straight from scripture. One of the verses to "How Firm a Foundation" is a paraphrase of Isaiah 41:10 - "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."
Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed, I, I am thy God and will still give thee aid; I’ll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand Upheld by My gracious, omnipotent hand. And in "Hark! the Herald Angels Sing", the verse about the "Sun of righteousness... risen with healing in his wings" is referring to Malachi 4:2. Re: Listen To Him
Angels long to look into these things..... Create in me......
