I've eaten at this place before, although I didn't remember it at first. The sign in the picture indicating you are at 2720 W Hwy 66, Gallup, NM is kind of a giveaway on the location! I remember driving down the road looking for a place to eat (and there weren't many) and ending up at Virgie's.

I am curious about why you are coming from western NM on the way to Red River. How did you end up there?

That does give it away, doesn't it! Didn't know if everyone would look that closely. Virgie's was far enough away from the interstate that it appeared to be frequented mostly by locals.

How did we come from that direction? Well, we received two free air fares for giving up our seats awhile back and decided to use them on the way to the Red River Encampment. My original intention was to fly to Nevada and take a photo tour of Zion, Bryce, Canyonlands and Monument Valley. However, we needed to see some friends in California - so we are approaching New Mexico from the West. We still hope to catch one or more of those national parks that I haven't seen before.

Zion, Bryce, and Canyonlands are really beautiful - we camped in those places when I was a kid back in the late 60s. The Fairyland section of Bryce Canyon is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen.
