During our impromptu stopover in Sante Fe, we happened upon a classic car show at the historic Plaza in downtown Santa Fe.

Can you identify the make and model of this automobile?

It seems like the generation that was ahead of me knew everything about identifying cars.  Driving down the road, a majority of men could spout off "That was a 1949 Ford Coup . . ."  Is it just me, or was that trend more prevalent at that time than in following generations?  What I mean is, there seemed to be an almost universal knowledge of car makes and models going back decades.  How much of that was attributed to America's fascination with the automobile?  How much of that was the result of the younger generation becoming so closely identified with their "wheels?"

Earlier this week, I heard discussions on the news channels about the demise of America's automobile industry.  One expert even mentioned (although they are not close at this point) the remote possibility that General Motors could one day choose bankruptcy.  What happened to the industry that was once America's home turf?
