Would you rather your musical offerings to God be "brilliant" or "broken?"

Personally - I like to frame the offering as our response to what the Lord has given to and for us. That being the case - it seems that jubilance during giving is more fitting, it certainly was for the Jews!

I guess it depends on the heart of those offering. I've experienced brilliant performances with amazing heart and with no heart, and I've experienced broken performances the same way. I do think we should always strive to offer God our best.

With me it depends on the day and where I am in my personal relationship. It is hard to have my hands lifted high in praise when the thought of my sin puts my face on the floor in tears. In both i am confident that my God is pleased. Sometimes I feel I sing to the Almighty God and Father of all. And in others I whisper tearfully in the lap of my Abba. I think the song "For the Lord is a Righteous God" says it best; Right next to His heart face-to-face. Think about the visual image of that phrase. Next to His heart face-to-face.

I prefer brilliant, but it may well be that God prefers broken...

Psalm 51:14 Save me from bloodguilt, O God,
the God who saves me, and my tongue will sing of your righteousness. 15 O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. 16 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. 17 The sacrifices of God are [c] a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. Being of the geezer persuasion, it matters not which I prefer. "Broken" is what I get.
