Re: Worship Survey -- Praise Teams and Worship

I grew up in very small church 1964-1976 and of course at that time Praise Teams did not exist anywhere. But as I look back at that little congregation I remember one of our dear ladies named "Wilma" who sang alto very loudly. She didn't sing off key as such but she was loud. Then I remember my Dad who was the pulpit minsiter there who sang bass very loudly. And I remember one of our other ladies who sang soprano loudly. We had a gentleman who sang tenor. Since the builidng could hold only about 200 all of these voices could be heard. I remember trying to learn to sing bass from my Dad and also trying to learn tenor from Melvin. As I look back at fond memories of my childhood I guess in a way we did have a Praise Team. If one of them were not able to attend a service because of sickness it effected our singing. The alto was weak, the tenor was weak, the tenor was weak. You see my point. I am sure most churches had this situation. But to have men and women to sit together with miscrophones and sing their voice part along with the rest of the congregation, well some have a problem with this. The only difference in now and then is the fact the parts sit together and have miscrophones. Where I worship now some of our brethren would have a problem not to mention some of our elders. So I do not push this idra. I love to lead singing at my congregation and I wish our brethren would understand how important it is sing your best and not be afraid "someone may hear them" or they "don't sing good enough to sing loud".
